Ever since I started working out, I’ve been asked by my sisters, friends and even strangers on the street what I do to keep in shape. After having 2 children and turning 40 (now 42), I get asked that same question even more. Fortunately for me, I discovered personal fitness trainer Radu Teordescu when I was 22. It was at that point that I realized I couldn’t just sit around and eat bagels if I wanted to be able to fit into the clothes for a shoot (and this was back in the 80s, when models were even allowed to be a – gasp! – size 6). I hooked up with Radu and I’ve made exercise a part of my life ever since!
Radu and I did 2 exercise videos together in the 90s. They were great workouts that I still stand by today!
My workouts look different now, but I still incorporate some of the basic ideas that I learned from Radu when I use my gym at home. Sometimes I'll also hike, do pilates, take a dance class, or jump on the trampoline with my kids. I find that mixing it up now works best for me and keeps me from getting bored. I usually try to do a more traditional workout twice a week – 30 minutes of walking on the treadmill on a steep incline (I hate running) and then going thru a weight routine to hit the major muscle groups: legs, bum, abs, back, chest, triceps, biceps and shoulders. Then I try to fit in 2 other “alternative” physical activities a week, like an hour long hike with a girlfriend.
Lately I’ve also been experimenting with the PowerPlate, which is really different and definitely shakes things up a bit!
